The UN Resident Coordinator Office was established in Mongolia in September of this year to provide a coherent United Nations operation and support the UN in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Tapan Mishra newly appointed as UN Coordinator for Mongolia and his staff met today with Ms. Ariunzaya Ayush, Chairperson of NSO, and relevant officials and exchanged views on cooperation.
Ms. Ariunzaya Ayush briefed on the activities carried out in the area of SDGs, and exchanged views on challenges that will be involved in estimationg SDG indicators and on ways how to deal with these. Mr.Tapan Mishra emphasized the importance of statistical data in the achievement of the SDGs, and expressed his satisfaction with the activities of NSO and noted their close cooperation.
Mongolia joined the UN since 1961, and has been expanding its UN cooperation since then. Currently, UN supports Mongolia through its 11 specialized UN agencies with technical and economic support in many social, economic and environmental sectors in Mongolia.
